An increasingly popular way to enhance your features without surgery is through the wonders of cosmetic injectables. From filling in facial hollowness to smoothing and preventing the formation of lines and wrinkles, there’s a reason that millions of Americans are opting for these non-surgical treatments.
At Vively Body Science, we’re a group of professionals who care deeply about the science and art behind aesthetic treatments. We’re owned and operated by medical physicians, Drs. Laurel and Joshua Martini, and our small but mighty team also includes an advanced practice aesthetician and an aesthetic nurse injector.
Vively’s nurse injector has over fifteen years of experience, and she receives a lot of questions and inquiries about the injectables we offer at Vively Body Science. Below is the most vital information for patients looking to learn about aesthetic injections.
What are cosmetic injectables?
Cosmetic injectables are injection procedures that are used to enhance your appearance through neurotoxins/neuromodulators or dermal filler.
These injectables aim to boost your features and your skin through sculpting the face, improving hollowness, reducing or eliminating wrinkles, and more. Many of our patients use these non-surgical treatments to combat signs of aging and appear more youthful.
Types of Cosmetic Injectables
While many people may only know of Botox (which we know and love) when they think of cosmetic injections, there’s actually a lot more to them! There are important distinctions between neurotoxin injections and dermal filler. Below, we cover how these injections differ from one another.
Neuromodulator/Neurotoxin Injections
Repeated facial expression through muscle movement and contraction can cause wrinkles and folds to form on the face. Collagen reduction and sun damage can also cause them. One of the best ways to treat these wrinkles and folds is with neuromodulator/neurotoxin injections.
How Neuromodulator/Neurotoxin Injections Work
Neurotoxin or neuromodulator injections refer to substances that work to make the muscle relax, in order to smooth the appearance of the skin and prevent further formation of wrinkles and folds. They accomplish this through muscle-relaxing botulinum toxin type A injections. The results are not permanent, but they last for months and you can schedule your neurotoxin top-off as needed from your provider.
Results
Neuromodulators/neurotoxins can create symmetry in key places of the face and reduce, eliminate, or prevent moderate to severe wrinkles and lines.
Neurotoxins like Botox temporarily reduce muscle activity beneath the skin to moderate the formation of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.
Jeuveau and Dysport injections can smooth moderate to severe glabellar lines (between the brows).
There are subtle differences to the formulation and results of these three types of injections at Vively. We can help you choose the best option for your individual needs during your complimentary consultation.

Treatment Process
Before a treatment, you will meet with a Vively specialist to discuss your treatment goals and how neuromodulator/neurotoxin injections can help you achieve those goals. We can also answer any questions you may have and address your concerns. Based on this consultation, we will create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your desired results.
During the procedure, you’ll relax in our comfortable treatment room. We will then inject your neuromodulators or neurotoxins to the treatment area(s). This procedure is minimally invasive and should cause little to no discomfort.
After your treatment, you can get right back to your normal routine. We recommend you not lie down for four hours and avoid intense physical activity for the first 48 hours afterward. We also ask that you avoid direct sunlight for several days after your treatment.
Dermal Filler Injections
Dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injection that restore volume to the treatment area to combat facial hollowness and enhance specific features.
As we age, our collagen production slows down, which can lead to skin laxity and hollowness in the under eyes, cheeks, and other areas.
Dermal fillers can rejuvenate these places or enhance other features to give them shape, such as the lips and cheeks.
How Dermal Fillers Work
Dermal fillers restore volume using ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, a naturally occuring substance in our bodies and skin. The volumizing ingredient plumps the area to smooth out wrinkles and enhance volume. This results in smoother skin with a more youthful appearance. While the results aren’t permanent, you can enjoy your results for many months and schedule a filler top-off as needed.

Treatment Process
To best tailor the treatment to your needs, you will meet with a Vively specialist to discuss your desired results and how dermal fillers can help achieve them. Your specialist will examine treatment area(s) and determine if fillers are the best option for you. You can also take this opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns you may have. Based on this discussion, we’ll create an individualized plan to achieve your desired results.
During the procedure, we’ll keep you comfortable during your dermal filler injections. We’ll make sure the process is streamlined and timely to minimize any pain.
After treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and excessive cold exposure for the first 24 hours. Normal post-treatment effects are redness, swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. These are temporary and to be expected. You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) for any pain, but avoid any ibuprofen or aspirin for the first 48 hours after treatment. To treat swelling, an ice pack can be applied to the site for a short period of time.
