How do acne scars develop?
Almost all of us have experienced acne in our lives at some point. We were told it would go away as we got older, but many of us have found this to be false the farther into adulthood we go. A minor consolation is that they are mostly a passing annoyance, but for some, acne can leave lasting evidence after an outbreak subsides as scarring. Of those who develop acne, it will leave 1 in 5 with scars. This has led many to seek options for acne scar treatment in Wayzata.
Acne scarring isn’t dangerous, although it can be an embarrassing condition to live with. Makeup can help to conceal these scars to some extent, but their presence is often still visible. These scars result from acne blemishes that experienced inflammation leading to the content in the blemish spilling into surrounding tissue. The body reacts by creating collagen to repair the area. This collagen is over-produced and raises the surface of the skin, resulting in scarring. The opposite is a loss of tissue, which results in an indentation of the skin.
There are multiple ways to reduce or even treat acne scarring. Chemical peels, Halo laser treatments, medical microneedling, dermabrasion, and microdermabrasion are all potential treatment methods. While these methods can require numbing, be somewhat uncomfortable, require downtime and added precautions before and after treatment, they are all great options. Another option that has added benefits and is easier to handle is ClearSilk.
ClearSilk is a non-invasive acne scar treatment near Minnetonka that we use regularly to treat all skin types suffering from a variety of skin conditions. ClearSilk is a gentle laser treatment that can help reduce the pigment that can accompany acne scarring. The treatment augments some of the other modalities we use to improve scarring. Patients often see improvement in their conditions after 1 treatment. However, many patients see the most improvement or even elimination of acne pigment after an average of 6 sessions. We recommend getting these treatment sessions about 2-4 weeks apart. We will advise you on what is best for your individual skin.
Our patients typically find this treatment to be one of the most comfortable when compared to other laser treatments. Appointments for treatment are usually about 30 minutes, with no need for downtime.
ClearSilk can also help with other skin concerns such as,
- Skin laxity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Redness & flushing
- Decreased luminosity
- Skin revitalization
